Police: Teen Injured in Gang-Related Shooting

A 16-year-old was shot in the leg in Silver Spring.

Montgomery County police are investigating a May 10 shooting in Silver Spring that they believe may have been gang related.

At approximately 8:40 p.m. that Friday, police officers responded to the 8700 block of Piney Branch Road for the report of a shooting, according to a news release from police. Multiple 911 calls reported the sound of gunshots and people running and yelling.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a 16-year-old shot in the leg. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Police determined that he had been walking with a group of people who were going to a house party in the area of Quebec Terrace.

As the group was walking through the parking lot of the Sunoco gas station located at 8875 Piney Branch Road, multiple gun shots were heard, and the 16-year-old realized that he had been shot, according to police.

Detectives believe that some of the group members are associated with a gang, and they are asking anyone with information about this shooting or the suspects involved to call the 3rd District Investigative Section at 301-565-5835.
