Silver Spring Crime: Fraud, School Parking Lot Thefts

Crimes in Silver Spring included in the county police department's most recent crime summary.

The following information was supplied by the Montgomery County Police Department in its summary of major crimes occurring in the county between Nov. 4 and 12. The mention of an arrest or charge does not indicate a conviction.

Assaults:

  • An aggravated assault occurred in the 600 block of University Boulevard in Silver Spring on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 3:33 p.m. The suspect is known to the victim.

  • An armed robbery occurred at 9:40 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, in the 10100 block of Kohler Road in Silver Spring. The suspects threatened the victims with a weapon and unsuccessfully attempted to obtain property. 
  • An armed robbery occurred on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 12:20 a.m. in the 10100 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring. The suspects threatened the victims with weapons and obtained property. 
  • An armed robbery occurred at Newport Mill and Veirs Mill Road in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 8:15 p.m. The suspects threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property. 
  • A strong-arm robbery occurred in the 10900 block of Pebble Run Drive in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 2 a.m. The suspect assaulted the victim and obtained property. 

Robberies:

  • A robbery occurred in the 1900 block of Mica Drive in Silver Spring on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 6:20 p.m. The suspects assaulted the victim and obtained property.

Thefts:

  • A theft occurred in the 1300 block of Dale Drive in Silver Spring overnight between Monday, Nov. 4, and Tuesday Nov. 5, and again overnight between Tuesday, Nov. 5, and Wednesday, Nov. 6. Property was taken from the exterior of a residence.  

Commercial burglaries:

  • A commercial burglary occurred in the 1900 block of Lyttonsville Road in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Nov. 5. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred at the Jewel of India Restaurant, 10151 New Hampshire Ave., in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Nov. 5, around 5:15 a.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred at the Golden China Carryout, 12719 Old Columbia Pike in Silver Spring, on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 5:36 a.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred at the BP Station, 13310 New Hampshire Ave. in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 3:09 a.m. Forced entry; nothing taken. 

Residential burglaries:

  • A residential burglary occurred on Tuesday, Nov. 5, between 12:30 and 1:45 p.m. in the 1400 block of Blair Mill Road in Silver Spring. No forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 1900 block of Kermit Road in Silver Spring on Friday, Nov. 8, at 8:49 p.m. Forced entry; nothing taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred between 8:30 a.m. and 6:20 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, in the 8000 block of Glenside Drive in Silver Spring. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred on Monday, Nov. 4, between 10:50 and 11:30 a.m. in the 9900 block of Dilston Road in Silver Spring. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred on Monday, Nov. 4, between 8 a.m. and 12:50 p.m. in the 10700 block of Meadowhill Road in Silver Spring. No forced entry; it is unknown if anything was taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 12300 block of Herrington Manor Drive in Silver Spring on Monday, Nov. 4, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Forced entry; nothing taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 12300 block of Galway Drive in Silver Spring on Thursday, Nov. 7, between 8:50 a.m. and 4 p.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 3400 block of Castle Way in Silver Spring on Monday, Nov. 4, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Unknown entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 13700 block of Colgate Way in Silver Spring on Saturday, Nov. 9, between 2 and 6:30 p.m. Unknown entry; property taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 11600 block of Gail Street in Silver Spring between Friday and Sunday, Nov. 9 and 10. No forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 12200 block of Bushey Drive in Silver Spring on Monday, Nov. 4, at 6:16 p.m. The suspect is known to the victim. A 28-year-old man from Rockville was arrested.

Thefts from vehicles:

  • Three thefts from vehicles occurred between Tuesday, Nov. 4, and Friday, Nov. 9. Two vehicles were left unlocked and one was forced open. Items taken included stereos, a camera and a GPS unit. Streets affected included Ruatan Street, Domer Avenue and Carroll Avenue in Silver Spring. 
  • A theft from a vehicle occurred on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 1:53 a.m. in the 9900 block of Merwood Lane in Silver Spring. The vehicle was left unlocked and a GPS unit, chargers and a Bluetooth were taken. Two men, both 47 years old and both of no fixed address, were arrested.
  • Three thefts from vehicles occurred at Montgomery Blair High School, at University Boulevard East in Silver Spring, on Saturday, Nov. 9, between 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. All three vehicles were forced open; purses and assorted items were taken from two of the vehicles. 

Fraud:

  • An attempted fraud occurred at a convenience store at 10755 Columbia Pike in Silver Spring on Monday, Nov. 11, at 7:10 p.m. The suspect attempted to use counterfeit money. 

Indecent exposure:

  • An indecent exposure occurred on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 10:10 a.m. in the 400 block of Silver Spring Avenue, Silver Spring. The suspect is known to the victim.
