Silver Spring Crime: Burglaries at CVS, 7-Eleven, Baptist Church

Crimes in Silver Spring that were included in the latest county police summary.

The following information was supplied by the Montgomery County Police Department in its summary of major crimes occurring in the county between Sept. 9 and 17. The mention of an arrest or charge does not indicate a conviction. 

Assaults:

  • An aggravated assault occurred at the bus stop at 8526 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, on Monday, Sept. 9, at 2:46 p.m. The suspect—a 31-year-old man from Silver Spring—assaulted the victim and was arrested. 
  • An aggravated assault occurred in the 8400 block of Fenton Street in Silver Spring on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 2 a.m. The suspects are known to the victims. Five men—ages 22 to 26—from Silver Spring were arrested.
  • A sex assault occurred at Spicy Mart (12715 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Spring) on Friday, Sept. 13, at 2:17 p.m. The suspect inappropriately touched the victim.

Armed robberies:

  • A strong-arm robbery occurred in the 600 block of Sonata Way in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. The suspect forcefully removed property from the victim.
  • A strong arm robbery occurred in the 11600 block of Stewart Lane in Silver Spring on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 3:45 a.m. The two suspects forcefully removed property from the victim, and drove a black Nissan Maxima four-door vehicle.
  • An armed robbery occurred in the 13800 block of Castle Boulevard in Silver Spring on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 11:43 p.m. The suspect threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property.

Robberies:

  • A robbery occurred in the 8500 block of Fenton Street in Silver Spring on Monday, Sept. 16. The suspects forcefully removed property from the victim.
  • An attempted robbery occurred in the 100 block of Ames Road in Silver Spring on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 2:54 a.m. The suspects assaulted the victims and unsuccessfully attempted to take property from the victims.

Commercial burglaries:

  • A commercial robbery occurred at the 7-Eleven store at 12257 Tech Rd., Silver Spring, on Monday, Sept. 16, at 1 a.m. The suspects threatened the victims with weapons and obtained property from them.
  • An attempted commercial burglary occurred at the CVS at 15600 Columbia Pike, Silver Spring, on Friday, Sept. 13, at 12:56 a.m. There was an attempted forced entry, but nothing was taken. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred at a shed located at the Burtonsville Baptist Church, 3400 Spencerville Rd., Silver Spring, between 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, and 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17. There was a forced entry, but nothing was taken. 

Residential burglaries:

  • A residential burglary occurred in the 2300 block of Michigan Avenue in Silver Spring between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12. There was a forced entry, and property was taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred on Thursday, Sept. 12, between 12:30 and 2:44 p.m. in the 400 block of University Boulevard East in Silver Spring. The entry is unknown, and property was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred on Thursday, Sept. 12, between 9 a.m. and 4:07 p.m. in the 900 block of Browning Avenue in Silver Spring. There was a forced entry, and property was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred on Thursday, Sept. 12, between 2 and 7:40 p.m. in the 9000 block of Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring. There was a forced entry, and property was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 4:44 a.m. in the 1000 block of Quebec Terrace in Silver Spring. There was a forced entry, and it is unknown what was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred on Saturday, Sept. 14, between 10 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. in the 7900 block of Garland Avenue in Silver Spring. There was no forced entry, and property was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred on Tuesday, Sept. 17, between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. in the 300 block of East Franklin Avenue in Silver Spring. There was a forced entry, and property was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred on Wednesday, Sept. 11, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the 10400 block of Brookmoor Drive in Silver Spring. There was no forced entry, and property was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred on Tuesday, Sept. 10, between 3:13 p.m. and 5:34 p.m. in the 11500 block of Stewart Lane in Silver Spring. The means of entry is unknown, and property was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred on Wednesday, Sept. 11, between 3:51 p.m. and 5:40 p.m. in the 13100 block of Broadmore Road in Silver Spring. There was a forced entry, and property was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred between 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, and 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, in the 3700 block of Lamberton Square Road in Silver Spring. The means of entry is unknown, and property was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at an unknown time in the 13700 block of Colgate Way in Silver Spring. There was a forced entry, and property was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 12400 block of Littleton Street in Silver Spring on Thursday, Sept. 12, between 1:17 and 2 p.m. The means of entry is unknown, and property was taken.

Thefts from vehicles:

  • Eleven thefts from vehicles occurred between Tuesday, Sept. 10, and Monday, Sept. 16, on the following streets: Greencastle Ridge Terrace, Colgate Way, Schubert Drive, Gateshead Manor Way, Pitcairn Place and Shreffield Manor Terrace in Silver Spring. Included in these incidents were six incidents that occurred between late evening Tuesday, Sept. 10, and early morning Wednesday, Sept. 11, in which vehicle parts were taken, and five incidents that occurred between late evening Sunday, Sept. 15, and early morning Monday, Sept. 16, in which tools, iPods, cash, video games and a GPS system were taken from vehicles.

Weapons offense:

  • A weapons offense occurred in the 3700 block of Bel Pre Road in Aspen Hill. The suspect—a 17-year-old male from Silver Spring—was arrested after an accidental discharge from the weapon.

Indecent exposure:

  • An indecent exposure occurred in the 8800 block of Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring on Monday, Sept. 16, at 1:20 p.m. The suspect exposed himself, then fled in a black pick-up truck.
