Silver Spring Crime: Burglaries at Winery, Construction Site, Housekeeping Office, More

Crimes in Silver Spring included in the county police department's most recent crime summary.

The following information was supplied by the Montgomery County Police Department in its summary of major crimes occurring in the county between Oct. 21 and 29. The mention of an arrest or charge does not indicate a conviction.

Armed robberies:

  • An armed robbery occurred in the 700 block of Sligo Avenue in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 2:09 a.m. The suspects threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property. 
  • An armed robbery occurred in the area of Ellsworth Drive and Fenton Street in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 11:53 p.m. The suspects threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property. A 33-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested.

  • A robbery occurred in the area of New Hampshire Avenue and Northampton Drive in Silver Spring on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 5:15 a.m. The suspect threatened the victim and obtained property. A 29-year-old man from Washington, DC, was arrested.
  • A robbery occurred in the 2900 block of Shepperton Drive in Silver Spring on Friday, Oct. 25, at 10:15 a.m. The suspect is known to the victim.
  • A robbery occurred in the 13900 block of Castle Boulevard in Silver Spring on Sunday, Oct. 27, at 2:30 a.m. The suspect assaulted the victim and obtained property. 

Commercial burglaries:

  • A commercial burglary occurred at Wheaton Winery (2211 University Blvd. West, Silver Spring) on Friday, Oct. 25, at 3:02 a.m. There was a forced entry, and property was taken. A commercial burglary occurred at a construction site at 10914 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, on Monday, Oct. 21, at 7:10 a.m. Property was taken from a storage room in the underground garage.
  • A commercial burglary occurred at a landscaping services business at 8913 Brookville Rd., Silver Spring, between Thursday afternoon, Oct. 24, and Friday morning, Oct. 25. There was no forced entry, and property was taken from a shed.  
  • A commercial burglary occurred at 2301 Glenallen Avenue in Silver Spring on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 9:15 a.m. The  housekeeping office in the basement was burgled. There was no forced entry, and property was taken.
Residential burglaries:
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 1000 block of N. Noyes Drive in Silver Spring on Friday, Oct. 25, at 1:09 a.m. The suspect entered a detached garage, but it is unknown what was taken. 
  • A burglary occurred in the 9400 block of Russell Road in Silver Spring on Monday, Oct. 28.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 10100 block of Greenock Road in Silver Spring on Friday, Oct. 25, at 5:43 a.m. The suspect entered a detached garage, but it is unknown if anything was taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred on Friday, Oct. 24, between 8 a.m. and 10:15 p.m. in the 11400 block of July Drive in Silver Spring. There was a forced entry, and property was taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred between 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, and 10:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, in the 11800 block of Old Columbia Pike in Silver Spring. The suspect is known to the victim. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 14100 block of Castle Boulevard in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Oct. 23, between 5 and 7:15 p.m. The means of entry is unknown, and property was taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 3400 block of Robey Terrace in Silver Spring between 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, and 4:50 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23. There was no forced entry, and property was taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 4200 block of Crosswood Drive in Silver Spring on Monday, Oct. 28, between 7:15 a.m. and 2:50 p.m. There was a forced entry, and property was taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 3300 block of Parkford Manor Terrace in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Oct. 29, between 9:30 a.m. and 6:11 p.m. There was a forced entry, and property was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 300 block of Duxbury Drive in Silver Spring at an unknown time around Oct. 14. There was a forced entry, and property was taken.  
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 13800 block of Tabiona Drive in Silver Spring on Sunday, Oct. 27, between 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. The entry and what was taken are both unknown.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 2800 block of Elnora Street in Silver Spring between Friday, Oct. 25, and Monday, Oct. 28. There was a forced entry, but nothing was taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 2300 block of Plyers Mill Road in Silver Spring around Tuesday, Oct. 22. There was a forced entry, and property was taken. 
  • An attempted residential burglary occurred in the 2700 block of Arvin Street in Silver Spring on Friday, Oct. 25, at 11:20 a.m. The suspect attempted to gain entry, then left. 
  • An attempted residential burglary occurred in the 12200 block of Valleywood Drive in Silver Spring on Monday, Oct. 28, at 7:27 a.m. There was an attempted forced entry, but nothing was taken. 

Thefts from vehicles:

  • Seven thefts from vehicles occurred between the late evening hours on Monday, Oct. 21, and the early morning hours of Wednesday, Oct. 23. Cash, computers, GPS systems, clothing, an MP3 Player and a car stereo were taken. Streets affected included Cherry Tree Lane/Pierce Drive (two incidents), Avenel Gardens Lane, Eastwood Avenue and Northmoor Drive in Silver Spring.
