Silver Spring Crime: Burglary at Silver Spring Transit Center Site

The following information was supplied by the Montgomery County Police Department in its summary of major crimes occurring in the county between Nov. 18 and 26. The mention of an arrest or charge does not indicate a conviction. 

Assaults:

  • A sexual assault occurred at the Unique Thrift Store (10121 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring) on Monday, Nov. 18, at 1:48 p.m. The suspect exposed himself and inappropriately touched the victim. A 56-year-old man from Silver Spring was arrested.

  • An attempted strong-arm robbery occurred at 12:39 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Georgia Avenue and Ellsworth Drive in Silver Spring. The suspect forcefully removed property from the victim. 
  • An armed robbery occurred at the bus stop located in the 10000 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring on Monday, Nov. 25, at 9:25 p.m. The suspect assaulted the victim and obtained property. 
  • An armed robbery occurred in the 8600 block of 11th Avenue in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 6:55 p.m. The suspects threatened the victims with a weapon and obtained property. 
  • An armed robbery occurred in the 8900 block of Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring on Friday, Nov. 24, at 10:55 p.m. The suspects assaulted the victim with a weapon and obtained property. 
  • An armed robbery occurred in the 9100 block of Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring on Sunday, Nov. 24, at 6:35 p.m. The suspect threatened the victim with a weapon but did not obtain property. A 20-year-old man from Silver Spring was arrested.
  • An armed robbery occurred in the 3900 block of Greencastle Ridge Drive in Silver Spring on Monday, Nov. 18, at 6:45 p.m. The suspects threatened the victims with weapons and obtained property. 
  • A strong-arm robbery occurred near the intersection of Briggs Chaney Road and Gateshead Manor Way in Silver Spring on Sunday, Nov. 22, at 7:20 p.m. The suspects assaulted the victim and obtained property. 
  • A strong-arm robbery occurred in the 14600 block of Monmouth Drive in Silver Spring on Monday, Nov. 25, at 3:05 p.m. The suspects assaulted the victim and obtained property. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred at the Subway restaurant at 15500 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Spring, on Monday, Nov. 18, at 4:10 a.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • An armed robbery occurred in the 12600 block of Layhill Road in Silver Spring on Friday, Nov. 22, at 9:50 p.m. The suspect threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property. 
  • A strong-arm robbery occurred in the 14800 block of Melfordshire Way in Silver Spring on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 7:45 a.m. The suspects assaulted the victim and obtained property. 

Commercial burglaries:

  • A commercial burglary occurred at Davita Dialysis (8040 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring) on Thursday, Nov. 21, between midnight and 2:47 p.m. Forced entry; nothing taken. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred at Sunoco (8225 Piney Branch Rd., Silver Spring) between 10 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, and 9 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred at Wildlife Habitat Council (8737 Colesville Rd., Silver Spring) on Thursday, Nov. 21, around 7:45 a.m. Forced entry; nothing taken. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred at 29 Convenience Mart (10755 Columbia Pike, Silver Spring) on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 3:35 a.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred at CVS (10113 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring) on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 3:10 a.m. Forced entry; nothing taken.
  • A commercial burglary occurred at Fairland Market (13318 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Spring) on Monday, Nov. 18) at 3:45 a.m. Forced entry; property taken.

  • A construction site burglary occurred at the Silver Spring Transit Center (8404 Colesville Rd., Silver Spring) between Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 5 p.m. and Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 6 a.m. Forced entry; property taken. 

Residential burglaries:

  • An attempted residential burglary occurred in the 8000 block of Eastern Avenue in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at midnight. Attempted forced entry; nothing taken. 
  • An attempted residential burglary occurred in the 7700 block of Blair Road in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Nov. 20, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Attempted forced entry; nothing taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 9400 block of Colesville Road in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 2 p.m. Attempted forced entry; nothing taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 1100 block of Highland Drive in Silver Spring on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 4:45 p.m. Attempted forced entry; nothing taken. A 58-year-old woman from Wynnewood, PA, was arrested.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 1000 block of Schindler Drive in Silver Spring on Monday, Nov. 18, between 3:05 and 10:06 p.m. Unknown entry; property taken. 
  • An attempted residential burglary occurred in the 10800 block of Margate Road in Silver Spring on Monday, Nov. 18, between 6 and 10 p.m. Attempted forced entry; nothing taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 100 block of Ames Road in Silver Spring between Wednesday, Nov. 20, and Friday, Nov. 22. No forced entry; nothing taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 2800 block of Lemar Street in Silver Spring between Thursday, Nov. 21, at 8:07 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 22, at 8 p.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 3200 block of Kilkenny Street in Silver Spring between Friday, Nov. 22, and Saturday, Nov. 23. Forced entry into shed; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 12900 block of Old Columbia Pike in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Nov. 19, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A theft occurred in the 2300 block of Musgrove Road in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 5:40 p.m. Property was taken from outside a residence. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 2400 block of Robey Terrace in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Nov. 19, between 6:10 a.m. and 7:34 p.m. Forced entry; nothing taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 1200 block of Windmill Lane in Silver Spring on Sunday, Nov. 24, at 2:37 p.m. Unknown entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 400 block of Woonsocket Lane in Silver Spring between Wednesday, Nov. 20, and Friday, Nov. 22. Two bicycles were taken from an unlocked garage. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 13300 block of Locksley Lane in Silver Spring on Friday, Nov. 22, between 1 and 3:30 p.m. No forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 2400 block of Glenallen Avenue in Silver Spring on Monday, Nov. 25. 
  • An attempted residential burglary occurred in the 12200 block of Valleywood Drive in Silver Spring on Monday, Nov. 18, at 1:56 a.m. Attempted forced entry; nothing taken. 

Thefts from vehicles:

  • A theft from vehicle occurred in the 7-Eleven parking lot located at 7980 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, on Friday, Nov. 22, at 8:23 a.m. Entry was forced and a purse was taken. 
  • Five thefts from vehicles occurred between Monday, Nov. 25, at 9 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 1:09 a.m. Vehicles were left unlocked; loose change was taken. Incidents occurred on Forest Grove Drive, Imperial Drive and Inwood Avenue in Silver Spring.
  • Three thefts from vehicles occurred during overnight and early morning hours on different days. Purses and wallets were taken. Incidents occurred on Lockwood Drive, Old Columbia Pike and Jackson Road in Silver Spring. 

Indecent exposure:

  • An indecent exposure occurred in the 8500 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring on Monday, Nov. 18, at 10:52 p.m. The suspect exposed himself to the victim. A 34-year-old man from Washington, DC, was arrested.
