Silver Spring Crime: Ice Rink Armed Robbery, Medicine Shoppe Burglary, Carjacking

The following information was supplied by the Montgomery County Police Department in its summary of major crimes occurring in the county between Dec. 16 and 30. The mention of an arrest or charge does not indicate a conviction.

Assaults:

  • An aggravated assault occurred at the Days Inn at 8040 13th Street, Silver Spring, on Wednesday, Dec. 25, at 5 a.m. The suspects are known to the victims. 
  • An aggravated assault occurred in the 11400 block of December Way in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Dec. 25, at 10:53 p.m. The suspect is known to the victim. 
  • An attempted sexual assault occurred near Ballinger Drive and Van Horn Way in Silver Spring on Monday, Dec. 16, between 2:30 and 2:50 p.m. 
  • An aggravated assault occurred on Sunday, Dec. 22, at 1:56 p.m. in the 13900 block of Castle Boulevard in Silver Spring. The suspect is known to the victim. A 24-year-old man from Silver Spring was arrested.
  • An aggravated assault occurred in the bank parking lot at 3200 Olney Sandy Spring Rd., Silver Spring, on Thursday, Dec. 26, at 4:40 p.m. A 58-year-old man from Laurel was arrested.
  • An aggravated assault occurred in the 1100 block of University Boulevard West in Silver Spring on Saturday, Dec. 21, at 10:11 a.m. The suspect is known to the victim. A 49-year-old man from Silver Spring was arrested. 

Armed robberies:

  • A strong-arm robbery occurred at the Veterans Plaza Ice Rink (1 Veterans Place, Silver Spring) on Thursday, Dec. 26, at 9 p.m. The suspect forcefully removed property from the victim, then fled. 
  • An armed robbery occurred at the Golgule Wireless store at 8203 Fenton St., Silver Spring, on Tuesday, Dec. 17, at 6:20 p.m. The suspects threatened the victims with a weapon and obtained property. 
  • A strong-arm robbery occurred at the Blue Pearl Buffet and Grill (inside the City Place Mall at 8661 Colesville Rd., Silver Spring) on Saturday, Dec. 21, at 10:34 p.m. The suspects forcefully removed property from the victim, then fled. 
  • A strong-arm robbery occurred in the 1100 block of Bonifant Street in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Dec. 24, at 11 p.m. The suspects assaulted the victim and obtained property. 
  • An armed robbery occurred in the 8600 block of Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring on Sunday, Dec. 22, at 4:04 a.m. The suspects threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property. 
  • An armed robbery occurred in the 500 block of Domer Avenue in Silver Spring on Monday, Dec. 23, at 2:48 a.m. The suspect threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property. 
  • A strong-arm robbery occurred on Piney Branch Road at Arliss Street in Silver Spring on Sunday, Dec. 29, at 2:33 a.m. The suspect assaulted the victim and obtained property.
  • A strong-arm robbery occurred in the 1500 block of Dilston Road in Silver Spring on Friday, Dec. 20, at 6:41 a.m. The suspect forcefully removed property from the victim, then fled. 
  • An armed robbery occurred on the path behind Lotte Plaza (13623 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring) on Sunday, Dec. 22, at 9:30 p.m. The suspect threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property. 
  • An armed robbery occurred in the 13600 block of Athania Street in Silver Spring on Thursday, Dec. 19, at 10:03 p.m. Forced entry; property taken.
  • An armed robbery occurred at Hung Phat Grocery (11315 Fern St., Silver Spring) on Tuesday, Dec. 24, at 5:59 p.m. The suspect threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property. 

Commercial burglaries:

  • A commercial burglary occurred at the Wireless Center (12263 Tech Rd., Silver Spring) on Friday, Dec. 20, at 2:45 a.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred at The Medicine Shoppe (2838 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring) on Monday, Dec. 23, at 2:05 a.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred at the Radio Shack (15646 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Spring) on Friday, Dec. 20, at 3:21 a.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred in the 11100 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring on Thursday, Dec. 26, at 11:25 p.m. There was a forced entry and vandalism.  

School burglary:

  • A burglary occurred at Page Elementary School (13400 Tamarack Rd., Silver Spring) on Monday, Dec. 23, at 4:34 a.m. Forced entry; nothing taken. 

Residential burglaries:

  • A residential burglary occurred in the 8000 block of Eastern Avenue in Silver Spring on Sunday, Dec. 22, at 6:53 p.m. Forced entry; property taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 8000 block of Colesville Road in Silver Spring on Sunday, Dec. 22, between 6 and 8 p.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 1100 block of East-West Highway in Silver Spring on Thursday, Dec. 19, between 7 and 11:15 a.m. Unknown entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 100 block of Croydon Court in Silver Spring on Saturday, Dec. 28, at 10:59 p.m. The suspects are known to the victim. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 8700 block of Bradford Road in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Dec. 18, between 7:05 a.m. and 2 p.m. Unknown entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 10800 block of Meadowhill Road in Silver Spring on Monday, Dec. 16, between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 2700 block of Sweet Clover Court in Silver Spring between Friday, Dec. 20, and Sunday, Dec. 22. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 3100 block of Castleleigh Road in Silver Spring between Friday, Dec. 20, and Monday, Dec. 23. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 3000 block of Castleleigh Road in Silver Spring between Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 23 and 24. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 11400 block of December Way in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Dec. 18, between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 11300 block of Columbia Pike in Silver Spring on Monday, Dec. 23, between 3:30 and 10:30 p.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 12900 block of Broadmore Road in Silver Spring on Thursday, Dec. 26. No forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 3600 block of Linganore Way in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Dec. 17, between 8 a.m. and 12:23 p.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 3400 block of Robey Terrace in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Dec. 17, between 10:50 a.m. and 4 p.m. Unknown entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 3600 block of Autumn Glen Circle in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Dec. 18, between 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 3900 block of Blackburn Lane in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Dec. 18, between 5 and 6:15 p.m. No forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 3900 block of Blackburn Lane in Silver Spring on Thursday, Dec. 26, between 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. No forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the first block of Jaystone Court in Silver Spring on Friday, Dec. 20, at 4:20 p.m. Forced entry; unknown if anything was taken. Five teenage boys—ages 14, 16, 17, 18 and 18—from Silver Spring were arrested.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 14800 block of Stonegate Terrace in Silver Spring during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 24 and 25. No forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 3200 block of Whispering Pines Drive in Aspen Hill on Sunday, Dec. 22, at 9 p.m. The suspects are known to the victim.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 12000 block of Claridge Road in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Dec. 25, between 5 and 8:30 p.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 11400 block of Nairn Road in Silver Spring on Thursday, Dec. 26, between 2 and 7 a.m. No forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 2900 block of Collins Avenue in Silver Spring during the night between Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 23 and 24. Forced entry into a shed; property taken.

Theft outside a residence:

  • A theft occurred between Friday, Dec. 27, and Monday, Dec. 30, in the 3200 block of Greencastle Road in Silver Spring. Property was taken from outside a residence.

Carjacking: 

  • A carjacking occurred on Tuesday, Dec. 24, at 8:40 p.m. in the 2100 block of Hildarose Drive in Silver Spring. The suspect threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained the vehicle. 

Vehicle thefts:

  • A vehicle theft occurred in the parking garage at 801 Ellsworth Dr., Silver Spring, on Friday, Dec. 27, between 7:50 and 11:52 p.m. 
  • A vehicle theft occurred in the 2100 block of Hildarose Drive in Silver Spring during the night between Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 18 and 19. 
  • An attempted vehicle theft occurred in the 13700 block of Serpentine Way in Silver Spring on Friday, Dec. 27, at 4:15 a.m.
  • A vehicle theft occurred in the 1900 block of Bronzegate Boulevard in Silver Spring during the night between Friday and Saturday, Dec. 27 and 28.

Thefts from vehicles:

  • Two thefts from vehicles occurred in parking garages on Spring Street and Wayne Avenue in Silver Spring. Both vehicles were forced open, and a purse and a backpack were taken.
  • Three thefts from vehicles occurred in the parking lot of the Sligo Adventist School (8300 Carroll Ave., Silver Spring) on Saturday, Dec. 28, between 11 p.m. and 2:45 a.m. on Sunday. All vehicles were entered by force and a cell phone and wallet were taken.
  • Five thefts from vehicles occurred in the Burnt Mills area of Silver Spring—on Legato Way, Dallas Avenue, Hampshire Green Way, Finale Terrace and Oakleaf Drive—between Dec. 17 and 24. All thefts occurred at night. Four of the vehicles were forced open; one of the vehicles had been left unlocked. Assorted items of value found inside the vehicles were taken, including boots, a purse and a BB gun.

Other incidents:

  • A "peeping Tom" incident occurred on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 5:35 p.m. in the 10200 block of Haywood Drive in Silver Spring. The suspect was seen looking into a window.
