Silver Spring Crime: Robbery at 7-Eleven, Burglaries at Verizon Store, Church

Crimes in Silver Spring included in the county police department's most recent crime summary.

The following information was supplied by the Montgomery County Police Department in its summary of major crimes occurring in the county between Sept. 16 and 24. The mention of an arrest or charge does not indicate a conviction. 

Assaults:

  • A sexual assault and robbery occurred in the 2300 block of Stewart Avenue in Silver Spring on Saturday, Sept. 21, at about 3:30 a.m. The suspect inappropriately touched the victim and unsuccessfully attempted to remove property from the victim. A 24-year-old man from Silver Spring was arrested.
  • An aggravated assault occurred in the 100 block of University Boulevard East in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 5 a.m. 

Armed robberies:

  • An armed robbery occurred in the 8500 block of Colesville Road in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 10:20 p.m. The suspects threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property. A 24-year-old man from Washington, DC, was arrested.
  • An attempted armed robbery occurred in the 8400 block of Colesville Road in Silver Spring on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 1:50 a.m. The suspect threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property. 
  • An attempted armed robbery occurred in the 1200 block of East-West Highway in Silver Spring at 2:02 on a morning between Sept. 16 and 24. The suspect assaulted the victim and unsuccessfully attempted to obtain property. 
  • An armed robbery occurred in the 600 block of Sonata Way in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. The suspect forcefully obtained property from the victim. 
  • An armed robbery occurred at the 7-Eleven store at 10203 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, on Friday, Sept. 20, at 2:39 a.m. The suspects threatened the victims with weapons and obtained property. 
  • An armed robbery occurred in the 10900 block of Lockwood Drive in Silver Spring on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 5:03 a.m. The suspects threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property.
  • An armed robbery occurred in the 13800 block of Castle Boulevard in Silver Spring on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 11:43 p.m. The suspect threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property. 
  • An attempted armed robbery occurred in the 13900 block of Castle Boulevard in Silver Spring on Friday, Sept. 13, at 9:17 p.m. The suspect threatened the victim with a weapon and unsuccessfully attempted to obtain property. 
  • An armed robbery occurred in the 900 block of Good Hope Drive in Silver Spring on Monday, Sept. 23, at 1:30 a.m. The suspects assaulted the victim and obtained property. 

Robberies:

  • A robbery occurred in the 9300 block of Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 4 p.m. The suspect is known to the victim. 
  • A robbery occurred in the 11200 block of Lockwood Drive in Silver Spring on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 10:30 p.m. The suspects threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property. 

Commercial burglaries:

  • A commercial burglary occurred at the Exxon station at 9331 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 3:08 a.m. There was a forced entry, and property was taken. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred at Joe’s Auto located at 101 University Boulevard West in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 4:05 a.m. There was a forced entry, and it is unknown what was taken. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred at a shed at the Burtonsville Baptist Church, at 3400 Spencerville Rd., Silver Spring, between 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, and 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17. There was a forced entry, and nothing was taken.
  • A commercial burglary occurred at the Verizon store at 13340 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, on Friday, Sept. 20, at 4:19 a.m. There was a forced entry, and property was taken. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred in the 11500 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring between Friday, Sept. 13, and Saturday, Sept. 14. There was a forced entry, and property was taken. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred in the 15000 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring during the night between Thursday and Friday, Sept. 19 and 20. There was no forced entry, and property was taken. 

Residential burglaries:

  • A residential burglary occurred on Tuesday, Sept. 17, between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. in the 300 block of East Franklin Avenue in Silver Spring. There was a forced entry, and property was taken.
  • An attempted residential burglary occurred between Wednesday, Sept. 18, and Thursday, Sept. 19, in the 8800 block of Glenville Road in Silver Spring. There was an attempted forced entry, and nothing was taken. 
  • An attempted residential burglary occurred in the 2000 block of Forest Dale Road in Silver Spring between 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, and 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18. There was an attempted forced entry, and nothing was taken.  
  • Two residential shed burglaries occurred between 10 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, and 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18. Property was taken. Affected streets included Calverton Boulevard and Lemar Street in Silver Spring. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 2700 block of Hunters Gate Terrace in Silver Spring on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 10:47 a.m. There was a forced entry, and it is unknown what was taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 11200 block of Oak Leaf Drive in Silver Spring on Friday, Sept. 20, between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. There was no forced entry, and property was taken. A 14-year-old boy and a 23-year-old man, both from Silver Spring, were arrested.
  • An attempted residential burglary occurred on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 5:28 p.m. in the 1700 block of Featherwood Street in Silver Spring. There was an attempted forced entry, and nothing was taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred between 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, and 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, in the 3700 block of Lamberton Square Road in Silver Spring. There was an unknown entry, and property was taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred on Wednesday, Sept. 11, in the 13700 block of Colgate Way in Silver Spring. There was a forced entry, and property was taken. 
  • An attempted burglary occurred in the 12200 block of Bushey Drive in Silver Spring on Monday, Sept. 23, at 2:36 p.m. 
  • A residential shed burglary occurred in the 3900 block of Elby Street in Silver Spring on Monday, Sept. 23 at 9:03 a.m.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 2100 block of Little Sorrell Way in Silver Spring on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 11:15 a.m. A 32-year-old woman of no fixed address was arrested.

Thefts from vehicles:

  • Eleven thefts from vehicles occurred between Tuesday, Sept. 10, and Monday, Sept. 16. Included in those were six incidents that occurred between late evening Tuesday, Sept. 10, and early morning Wednesday, Sept. 11, in which vehicle parts were taken, and five incidents that occurred between late evening Sunday, Sept. 15, and early morning Monday, Sept. 16, in which tools, iPods, cash, video games and a GPS system were taken. Streets targeted included Greencastle Ridge Terrace, Colgate Way, Schubert Drive, Gateshead Manor Way, Pitcairn Place and Sheffield Manor Terrace.

This feels like old info the Patch has already sent out via email. Isn't there a more current crime report available?

This is the most recent crime summary. The crime summary isn't released by the police department right away - it's usually a week or so behind. I round up the Silver Spring crimes on Sunday nights, and, yes, they do tend to look alike after a while.
