Silver Spring Crime: Robbery at Argyle Middle School, Attempted Burglary at William Tyler Page Elementary School

The most recent county police summary also included many assaults and residential burglaries taking place in Silver Spring.

The following information was supplied by the Montgomery County Police Department in its summary of major crimes occurring in the county between Aug. 12 and 20. The mention of an arrest or charge does not indicate a conviction.

Sexual assaults:
  • A sexual assault occurred in the 11200 block of Markwood Drive in Silver Spring on Monday, Aug. 12. The suspect is known to the victim.
  • An attempted sexual assault occurred in the 1100 block of East West Highway in Silver Spring on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 6:30 p.m. A 32-year-old man from Silver Spring was arrested in connection with the assault.
Aggravated assaults:
  • An aggravated assault occurred in the 11500 block of Clairmont View Terrace in Silver Spring on Sunday, Aug. 18, at 3 a.m. The suspect is known to the victim.
  • An aggravated assault occurred in the 11200 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 3:07 p.m. 
  • An aggravated assault occurred in the 600 block of Silver Spring Avenue in Silver Spring on Friday, Aug. 16, at 8 p.m. The suspect is known to the victim.
  • An aggravated assault occurred in the 13900 block of Castle Boulevard in Silver Spring on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 8:54 p.m. The suspects are known to the victim.
Robberies:
  • An attempted robbery occurred in the 3100 block of Fairland Road in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 1 a.m. The suspects threatened the victim with a weapon and unsuccessfully attempted to take property from the victim.
  • A robbery occurred in the 14100 block of Castle Boulevard in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 7:50 p.m. The suspect assaulted the victim and obtained property. 
  • A robbery occurred in the 13900 block of Castle Boulevard in Silver Spring on Sunday, Aug. 18, at 4:09 a.m. The suspect threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property.
  • A robbery occurred in the 14100 block of Armilla Court in Burtonsville on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 9:38 p.m. The victim was assaulted and property was taken.
  • A robbery occurred in the 3900 block of Ballet Way in Burtonsville on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 12:35 p.m. The suspect threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property from the victim.
  • A strong-arm robbery occurred in front of Argyle Middle School, at 2400 Bel Pre Road, Aspen Hill, on Monday, Aug. 12, at 12:30 p.m. The suspects threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property from the victim.
  • An attempted strong-arm robbery occurred in the 2700 block of University Boulevard West in Silver Spring on Sunday, Aug. 18, at 8:28 p.m. The suspects assaulted the victim and unsuccessfully attempted to obtain property from the victim.
Attempted school burglary:
  • An attempted burglary occurred at William Tyler Page Elementary School, at 13400 Tamarack Road, Silver Spring, on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 1:15 a.m. There was an attempted forced entry, but nothing was taken. 
Residential burglaries:
  • An attempted residential burglary occurred in the 700 block of McNeil Road in Silver Spring between 2 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, and 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15. There was an attempted forced entry, but nothing was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 8000 block of First Avenue in Silver Spring between 2:50 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, and 2:50 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18. There was a forced entry, and nothing was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 9500 block of St. Andrews Way in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Aug. 14, between 8:05 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. There was a forced entry, and property was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 200 block of Brewster Avenue in Silver Spring on Monday, Aug. 19, between 7:50 a.m. and 5 p.m. There was a forced entry, and property was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 1500 block of Grace Church Road in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 8 a.m. There was an unknown entry, and property was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 11800 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Aug. 14, between 10:50 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. There was a forced entry, and property was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 11800 block of Caplinger Road in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 1:15 p.m. There was a forced entry, but nothing was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 1600 block of Regent Manor Court in Silver Spring on Thursday, Aug. 15, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. There was a forced entry, and property was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 500 block of Norcross Way in Silver Spring on Monday, Aug. 19, at 1:24 p.m. There was a forced entry, and property was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 11200 block of Oak Leaf Drive in Silver Spring on Sunday, Aug. 18, between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. The means of entry is unknown, and property was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 11500 block of Steward Lane in Silver Spring on Sunday, Aug. 18, between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The means of entry is unknown, and property was taken.
  • An attempted residential burglary occurred in the 12900 block of Beethoven Boulevard in Silver Spring between 10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, and 7 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14. There was an attempted entry, but nothing was taken. 
  • An attempted residential burglary occurred in the unit block of Sheffield Manor Court in Fairland on Tuesday, Aug. 13, between 9 a.m. and 8:50 p.m. There was an unknown entry, and property was taken. 
  • An attempted residential burglary occurred in the 14700 block of McKnew Road in Burtonsville on Wednesday, Aug. 14. There was an attempted forced entry, but nothing was taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 14900 block of McKnew Road in Burtonsville on Friday, Aug. 16, between 5 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. There was a forced entry, and property was taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 14900 block of McKnew Road in Burtonsville. There was a forced entry, but nothing was taken. Two 16-year-old men from Burtonsville were arrested in connection with the burglary.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 14000 block of Cricket Lane in Silver Spring on Monday, Aug. 19, between 1 and 1:30 p.m. There was no forced entry, and property was taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 14400 block of Long Green Lane in Silver Spring on Monday, Aug. 19, at 4:10 p.m. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 13100 block of Middlevale Lane in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 12:30 p.m. 
  • An attempted residential burglary occurred in the 12200 block of Bushey Drive in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 2:04 a.m. There was an attempted forced entry, but nothing was taken.
Thefts from vehicles:
  • A vehicle theft occurred in the 2000 block of Peggy Lane in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at about 5:30 p.m. The vehicle was left running. A 26-year-old man from Silver Spring was arrested in connection with the theft.
  • Eight thefts from vehicles occurred between Monday, Aug. 12, and Monday, Aug. 19. Six vehicles were entered by force. Computers, cell phones, MP3 players, a GPS System and an auto stereo were taken. The incidents occurred on Georgia Avenue, Castlehedge Terrace, Cameron Street and East West Highway in Silver Spring. 
  • Eight thefts from vehicles occurred between Friday, Aug. 16, and Monday, Aug. 19, during the late evening and early morning hours. Included in the eight thefts were six that occurred in the Burtonsville area. Vehicle doors appear to have been unlocked in seven of the incidents, and cash, jewelry, computers, wallets, clothing, GPS systems and tools were stolen. Streets targeted included Angelton Court and Angelton Terrace (three incidents), Beaker Court, Beethoven Way, Swan House Court, Turbridge Drive and Big Horn Drive.
