Silver Spring Crime: Assault, Burglary at Tex-Mex Restaurants; Robberies at Exxon Stations

Crimes in Silver Spring included in the county police department's most recent crime summary.

The following information was supplied by the Montgomery County Police Department in its summary of major crimes occurring in the county between Nov. 11 and 19. The mention of an arrest or charge does not indicate a conviction.

Assaults:

  • A sexual assault occurred at the Unique Thrift Store at 10121 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, on Monday, Nov. 18, around 1:45 p.m. The suspect inappropriately touched the victim. A 56-year-old man from Silver Spring was arrested.
  • A sexual assault occurred between Nov. 11 and 19 in the 800 block of Northampton Drive in Silver Spring. The suspect is known to the victim. 
  • A sexual assault occurred in the 11500 block of February Circle in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Nov. 13. The suspect is known to the victim. 
  • An aggravated assault occurred in the 12800 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 5:26 p.m. The suspect is known to the victim. A 24-year-old man from Silver Spring was arrested.
  • A sexual assault occurred in the 12200 block of Atherton Drive in Silver Spring on Monday, Nov. 18, at 4:54 a.m. The suspect is known to the victim. A 25-year-old man from Silver Spring was arrested.
  • An aggravated assault occurred in front of Matamoros Restaurant (2322 University Blvd. West, Silver Spring) on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 4:52 a.m. The suspect is known to the victim. A 48-year-old man from Silver Spring was arrested.

  • An armed robbery occurred at the Exxon station at 8301 Fenton St., Silver Spring, on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 2:44 p.m. Three suspects threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property.
  • An armed robbery occurred in the 700 block of McNeil Road in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Nov. 13, just before 5 p.m. The suspects threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property. 
  • An armed street robbery occurred on 11th Avenue near Carroll Avenue in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Nov. 19, between 6:55 and 7:20 p.m. The suspects threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property. 
  • An armed robbery occurred in the 13000 block of Serpentine Way in Silver Spring on Saturday, Nov. 16, around 3:35 a.m. The suspects threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property.
  • An armed robbery occurred in the 3900 block of Greencastle Ridge Drive in Silver Spring on Monday, Nov. 18, around 6:45 p.m. The suspects threatened the victims with a weapon and obtained property. 
  • An attempted strong-arm robbery occurred at the intersection of Bel Pre Road and Connecticut Avenue in Silver Spring on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. The suspects assaulted the victims and unsuccessfully attempted to obtain property from them.
  • A strong-arm robbery occurred in the 12300 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring on Friday, Nov. 15, at 11:15 p.m. 
  • An armed robbery occurred in the 1800 block of Arcola Avenue in Silver Spring on Saturday or Sunday, Nov. 16 or 17, at 11:51 p.m. The suspects threatened the victims with a weapon and obtained property. 

Commercial robbery:

  • A commercial robbery occurred at the Exxon station at 9336 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 2:37 p.m. The suspect threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property.

Commercial burglaries:

  • A commercial burglary occurred at the Mi Rancho restaurant (8701 Ramsey Ave., Silver Spring) on Tuesday, Nov. 12, just after 2 a.m. There was a forced entry, but nothing was taken. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred at a storage unit in the 7900 block of Fenton Street in Silver Spring between Monday, Nov. 11, at 11 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 12, at noon. There was a forced entry, but nothing was taken. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred at a convenience store at 10755 Columbia Pike, Silver Spring, on Tuesday, Nov. 19, around 3:35 a.m. There was a forced entry, and property was taken. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred at the Fairland Market (13318 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Spring) on Monday, Nov. 18, between 3:45 and 3:52 a.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred at the Subway restaurant at 15500 Old Columbia Pike in Silver Spring on Monday, Nov. 18, around 4:10 a.m. Forced entry; property taken. 

Residential burglaries:

  • An attempted residential burglary occurred in the 9200 block of Second Avenue in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Nov. 13, between 8:30 a.m. and 9:20 p.m. Attempted forced entry; nothing taken.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 8700 block of Gilbert Place in Silver Spring on Thursday, Nov. 14, between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Unknown entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 10200 block of Green Forest Drive in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Nov. 13, between 7 p.m. and 9:50 p.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 1000 block of Schindler Drive in Silver Spring on Monday, Nov. 18, between 3 and 10 p.m. Unknown entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 12300 block of Pretoria Drive in Silver Spring on Thursday, Nov. 14, around 9:44 p.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 11400 block of Stewart Lane in Silver Spring on Sunday, Nov. 17, between midnight and 6:30 a.m. Unknown entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 12900 block of Old Columbia Pike in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Nov. 19, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • An attempted residential burglary occurred in the 3400 block of Robey Terrace in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Nov. 19, between 6:10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Forced entry; nothing taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 16600 block of Cypress Bay Lane in Silver Spring on Wednesday, Nov. 13, between 9:15 and 11:45 a.m. No forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 12600 block of Farnell Drive in Silver Spring on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 3:06 a.m. The suspect is known to the victim. A 40-year-old man of unknown address was arrested.
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 11500 block of Charlton Drive in Silver Spring on Thursday, Nov. 14, between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. No forced entry; property taken.  

Attempted burglary:

  • An attempted burglary occurred in the 12300 block of Dewey Road in Silver Spring on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 5:06 p.m. 

Thefts from vehicles:

  • Four thefts from vehicles occurred on Georgia Avenue, Fleetwood Street and East-West Highway via various methods of entries. Items taken included an iPad, wallet and cash.
  • Three thefts from vehicles occurred most likely on Thursday, Nov. 14, between midnight and 8 a.m. on streets including Valiant Way and Bald Hill Court in Silver Spring. Vehicle parts were taken.
