Silver Spring Crime: Burglary at Associated Insurance, Assault at Mangos Market

Crimes in Silver Spring included in the county police department's most recent crime summary.

The following information was supplied by the Montgomery County Police Department in its summary of major crimes occurring in the county between Dec. 2 and 10. The mention of an arrest or charge does not indicate a conviction.

Assaults:

  • A sexual assault occurred on Georgia Avenue just south of Sligo Avenue in Silver Spring on Thursday, Dec. 5, just after 2 p.m. The suspect inappropriately touched the victim. 
  • An aggravated assault occurred at Mangos Market and Deli (11218 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring) on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 2:57 p.m. A 53-year-old man from Takoma Park was arrested.

  • An attempted armed robbery occurred in the parking lot of La Chiquita Express (632 University Blvd. East, Silver Spring) on Thursday, Dec. 5, around 11:20 p.m. The suspect threatened the victim with a weapon and unsuccessfully attempted to obtain property. 
  • A strong-arm robbery occurred at Avenel Road and Northampton Drive in Silver Spring on Monday, Dec. 9, just before 3:30 a.m. The suspects forcefully removed property from the victim. 
  • An armed robbery occurred in the 15100 block of McKnew Road in Silver Spring on Sunday, Dec. 8, around 5:10 a.m. The suspects threatened the victim with a weapon and obtained property.
  • A strong-arm robbery occurred in the 3200 block of Hewitt Avenue in Silver Spring on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 7:20 p.m. The suspect forcefully removed property from the victim, then fled.

Commercial burglaries:

  • A commercial burglary occurred at Associated Insurance (8120 Fenton St., Silver Spring) on Friday, Dec. 6, between 7:45 and 8 a.m. Forced entry; nothing taken. 
  • A commercial burglary occurred in the 11100 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring on Monday, Dec. 2, around 8 p.m. There was no forced entry into the construction site at this location, but property was taken. 

Residential burglaries:

  • A residential burglary occurred in the 500 block of Beacon Road in Silver Spring on Friday, Dec. 6, between 8:30 a.m. and 2:50 p.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 100 block of Colony Road in Silver Spring on Friday, Dec. 6, between 1:30 and 3:45 p.m. Forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 3000 block of Weisman Road in Silver Spring on Friday, Dec. 6, between 3:38 and 8:20 p.m. No forced entry; property taken. 
  • A residential burglary occurred in the 4000 block of Ferrara Drive in Silver Spring on Sunday, Dec. 7, at 1:53 a.m. Forced entry; nothing taken. A 34-year-old man from Rockville was arrested.

Theft of property:

  • A theft occurred in the 100 block of Shaw Avenue in Silver Spring between Friday, Dec. 6, at 11 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. Property was taken from outside a residence. 

Thefts from vehicles:

  • Four thefts from vehicles occurred during the night between Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 4 and 5, on Prelude Drive and Oakleaf Drive in Silver Spring. Two vehicles were forced open and two were left unlocked. A GPS unit was taken.
  • A theft from a vehicle occurred in the 14100 block of Castle Boulevard in Silver Spring on Monday, Dec. 2, around 4:15 p.m. There was a forced entry, and cell phones were taken.
