UPDATE: Silver Spring Death Investigated as Homicide

Update Feb. 9th: 8:30 p.m. The investigation into the murder of Elizabeth Velez Vasquez continues after her husband Bernardo Paz Flores-Olvera was charged with her murder, Montgomery County Police have reported. 

The preliminary investigation revealed that  Flores-Olvera had stabbed his wife with a knife and another sharp instrument, according to a release from Montgomery County Police.

Both of those items were recovered. 

The investigation also uncovered that their two children, a 3-month-old and 2-year-old, were home at the time of the assault, but Flores-Olvera later took them to a family member’s home.

Flores-Olvera is being charged with first-degree murder in relation to Vasquez’s death. He is currently being held on a no-bond status.

A bond review hearing will be held Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. at the Rockville District Court.  

Original Post, Feb. 9th 5:55 a.m.: A 33-year-old woman was found dead in a Silver Spring apartment early Wednesday morning and police are investigating it as a homicide, Montgomery County Police have reported.

Police were alerted to the woman's death when they received a 911 call at 11:58 p.m. Tuesday from a pay phone at 8875 Piney Branch Road, which is the location of the Piney Branch Service Center. The male caller said he had killed his wife two hours earlier and that his wife was at their home, according to a release from the police.

Officers arrived at the location of the call and found the caller, Bernardo Paz Flores-Olvera, 32. He again said he had killed his wife and that he lived in the 1000 block of Quebec Terrace with his wife and children.

Other officers went to his apartment and found the body of Elizabeth Velez Vasquez, the wife of Flores-Olvera, lying on the floor of one of the bedrooms. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other victims were found in the apartment.

Vasquez's death is currently under investigation. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore will complete an autopsy in order to confirm the cause and manner of death. More information regarding her death with be released when a charging document is served on Flores-Olvera.
