Silver Spring Man Convicted of Armed Robbery After Gun Found in Doghouse

A Silver Spring man faces up to 75 years in prison for robbing three men of their wallets and phones at gunpoint near the Takoma Metro station on New Year’s Day, the State’s Attorney for Montgomery County announced this week.

On Tuesday, a jury found Daquan Lee Tyler, 20, guilty of 10 counts related to the armed robbery and intimidation of a witness who testified against him.

Police found a gun similar to the one described by the victims in a doghouse in the backyard of Tyler’s house on Potomac Avenue, prosecutors said. Police also found at Tyler’s house two video games, which had been rented from Redbox using credit cards stolen from the victims.

Prosecutors said Tyler is connected to a Takoma Park gang called the Maple Avenue Crew. Two gang members were also implicated in the crime. Kyree Jordan, 19, whose last known address is in Washington, DC, pleaded guilty Wednesday to participating in the armed robbery. Joshua Baylor, 20, of Severn, pleaded guilty to serving as the look-out. He faces 5 years in prison. 

Baylor testified that the robbery was Tyler’s idea and that Tyler told him he had a gun just before the robbery, prosecutors said. When police arrested Jordan on May 9 in Takoma Park, they found a photo of a letter from Tyler to Jordan, asking Jordan to stop Baylor from testifying.

Jordan was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years in prison for a drug-related conviction, with 10 years suspended. He also received 10 years—all of them suspended—for the armed robbery. He will be on probation for five years after his release. Jordan could face another 20 years behind bars if he violates probation.

Tyler’s sentencing is set for Aug. 29. Baylor’s sentencing is set for Sept. 14.
