Silver Spring Student Charged in Northwood High School Stabbing

An 18-year-old is charged in the stabbing of a 15-year-old fellow student.

An 18-year-old Northwood High School student was charged with two assault counts in connection with the stabbing of a 15-year-old fellow student on school property Monday morning, Montgomery County Police said.

Police responded to Northwood High School, 919 University Boulevard West in Silver Spring, at 10:59 a.m. with reports of a stabbing. Officers said the victim was sent to a hospital with a puncture wound to his upper leg. His injuries were non-life-threatening, police said

Investigators said the victim was stabbed while in a school hallway near the cafeteria. Police found a knife on the high school’s property Monday and were investigating whether it was the weapon used, police said.

School security officers helped police in determining a suspect whom witnesses said was spotted leaving the school after the incident, according to police.

About 12:10 p.m., Chidat Tarawally of Silver Spring was arrested as he was returning to Northwood’s campus, police said. He was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and possession of a weapon on school property.
