Silver Spring YMCA Collecting Donations for Fire-Displaced Family

A March 22 fire in Takoma Park displaced 10 people, including a single mother and her children.

A fire that tore through a Takoma Park apartment building Friday, March 22, left 10 people displaced, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue. A single mother and her two children, one in 3rd grade and a 1-year-old, were among the displaced.

The family was part of the Silver Spring YMCA's Youth and Family Services program, which is collecting donations for the family. The Y wrote in a blog post that the family "lost everything" in the fire.

While thankfully no one was hurt, this family is in desperate need of our help with basic household items for the kitchen, bathroom, baby items, etc. Anything we can do to help will mean the world of difference - because we all need each other.

Donations are being accepted at the Youth and Family Services building at 9601 Colesville Road.
