Speed Bumps Reinstalled on Ellsworth Drive to Slow Traffic

The bumps really help to slow drivers down, an official says.

 

The downtown Silver Spring property management company has reinstalled two speed bumps on Ellsworth Drive. The bumps serve as a reminder to drivers coming through the area to yield to pedestrians on the street.

Although the speed limit is 15 mph, drivers can sometimes forget that, says Ronnell Johnson, head of security in downtown.

Just recently, has also started to barricade Ellsworth Drive between Georgia Avenue and Fenton Street during lunchtime.

Johnson says he has noticed a huge difference. Pedestrians seem to walk at a slower pace and enjoy walking around more, he added.

The speed bumps are usually removed during the winter for snow removal and during festivities such as the Thanksgiving Parade.
