Suspicious Bag Closes Randolph Road Wednesday Morning

Montgomery County police took a man into custody near the intersection of Randolph Road and New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring.

Randolph Road was closed in both directions at New Hampshire Avenue as Montgomery County police investigated a suspicious situation there Wednesday morning.

Police received a call about a man who was jumping up and down near the Colesville intersection, yelling about the explosives he said he was carrying in his bag, said Cpl. Rebecca Innocenti, a county police spokesperson.

The man is in custody, and fire marshals are coming to check the bag, Innocenti said shortly before 10 a.m.

Traffic patterns returned to normal at approximately 10:20 a.m.
