Twin Tower Residents Evacuated after Gas Leak

An investigation continues into the cause of the leak.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue team along with Pepco and Washington Gas are investigating the cause of a gas leak on the 11th floor of the Twin Towers apartment complex, according to a Fire and Rescue official.

Early Thursday afternoon around 1:15 p.m. Fire and Rescue officials received a report that an explosion occurred at the apartment complex located at 1110 Fidler Ln.

After arriving on the scene "the fire was controlled and contained within 15 minutes," said Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Spokesman Captain Oscar Garcia.

Only residents who lived on 11th floor were evacuated.

A maintenance employee working on the floor said he smelled gas. At this point he used his keys to get into the apartment and saw a flash fire along with cabinets falling, added Capt. Garcia. He closed the door and rang the fire alarm.
