Cherry Blossom Lovers Can Expect a Break from Metro Construction

If the weather is great, Metro ridership increases by more than 15 percent during Cherry Blossom season, according to officials.

Silver Spring Metro riders headed to the Tidal Basin to enjoy cherry blossoms this spring can expect less delays on their trip.

Metro officials say they are taking a break from an aggressive schedule of track work and rebuilding to make traveling during Cherry Blossom season much smoother and enjoyable for riders.

"Metro is the preferred travel choice for hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Tidal Basin each spring," Metro General Manager and CEO Richard Sarles said. "To ensure a seamless travel experience, we will take a short hiatus from our aggressive rebuilding efforts."
