Montgomery County Council Member Valerie Ervin (D-District 5) announced on Tuesday her resignation from the council to lead nonprofit organization Center for Working Families, Silver Spring Patch reported

Ervin will leave her seat on the council in January, the council's office reported.

According to Section 106 of the county's charter, when a council member in the final year of his or her term leaves the council, creating a vacancy, a "majority of the remaining members of the council shall appoint a person to fill the vacancy within 30 days."

"An appointee to fill a vacancy, when succeeding a party member, shall be a member of the same political party as the person elected to such office at the time of election," the charter continues.

In your opinion, who might be appointed to fill Ervin's vacancy? Tell us in the comments.

I would nominate Alan Bowser. I don't know anyone who has volunteered more time for the Silver Spring community than Alan, from the Silver Spring Advisory Board to Silver Spring Town Center to organizing the Blues Festival to events for veterans. And he has served on the Council staff. Woody Brosnan
