Veterans Day Program at Springvale Terrace with State Senator Jamie Raskin

 

The Resident Council of Seabury at Springvale Terrace
Retirement Community will hold a Veterans Day ceremony this Friday, November 11th, at 10:00 AM.

This year marks the 100th Anniversary of
Armistice Day that was created by President Woodrow Wilson on November 11, 1911, and later changed to Veterans Day in 1954 by President Dwight Eisenhower.

The morning’s program will include special gifts of flags to
the Resident Council of Springvale Terrace that will in turn be given to the community for display.  This will include
a gift from resident Anna Clark of the United States flag that draped her husband’s casket, veteran William F. Clark Sr.  It will proudly fly in front of Springvale Terrace.

Other presentations include gifts of the United States flag
that has flown of the U.S. Capitol from U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski, the Montgomery County flag from Montgomery County Administrator Ike Leggett, and
the Maryland State flag from featured speaker, Maryland State Senator Jamie Raskin.

State Senator Jamie Raskin represents Maryland’s 20th
Senatorial District.  He has been a member of the Maryland State Senate since January 10, 2007.  Raskin currently serves on the Senate’s Judicial Proceedings Committee, the Joint Committee on the Chesapeake and  Atlantic Coastal Bays Critical Area, the Joint Committee on Federal Relations and the Joint Committee on Legislative Ethics. 
Raskin graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Harvard Law School, served as Assistant Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from 1987 to 1989, and has been a Professor of Law at American University’s Washington College of Law since 1990.  Senator
Raskin is married with three children.

The program will conclude with a special recognition of
resident veterans at Springvale Terrace and refreshments provided by the
