Getting Around Town: August 1, 2011

Each Monday, we’ll bring you the latest information on construction delays, road closures and other issues that affect traffic in Silver Spring.

Regular Road Closings:

• Ellsworth Drive from Fenton Street to Georgia Avenue is closed due to vehicular traffic each weekend from Friday through Sunday.

        Time: 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Short-term Closures/Work Zones

• University Boulevard from Dennis Avenue to Caddington Road - look for the westbound right lane to be blocked intermittently.

• Georgia Avenue from Cameron Street to Spring Street – look for drilling to affect traffic from Monday through Friday.  

        Time: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

• Colesville Road at Bonifant Street - look for traffic signal work to affect traffic from Monday through Saturday until August 12, 2011.

        Time: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

• Colesville Road at Silver Spring Avenue - look for traffic signal work to affect traffic from Monday through Saturday until August 12, 2011.

        Time: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

• Colesville Road at Sligo Avenue - look for traffic signal work to affect traffic from Monday through Saturday until August 12, 2011.

        Time: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

• Colesville Road at Wayne Avenue - look for traffic signal work to affect traffic from Monday through Saturday through August 12, 2011. 

        Time: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

• Colesville Road at Thayer Avenue - look for traffic signal work to affect traffic from Monday through Saturday through August 12, 2011.

       Time: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Long-term Work Zones

• Georgia Avenue from 495 to Route 390, look for milling, patching and paving to close various lanes from through December 31, 2011.

        Time: 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

• Colonial Lane between Ripley Street and Silver Spring Avenue - look for work to block all thru lanes until March 18, 2012.

• I-495 – look for bridge painting to close the shoulder around the University Boulevard overpass from Monday to Friday until December 31.

        Time: 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. 

• Watch for ongoing construction of the new Silver Spring Transit Center at Colesville Road and Wayne Avenue – buses now stop on the street and new signage is everywhere.

• Georgia Avenue from 495 to 16th Street – look for paving work to slow traffic from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. through the end of the year.

• University Boulevard from the beltway to Colesville Road will be experiencing patching a repaving through the end of 2011 – look for one lane closure at a time between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

• Forest Glen Community Street, Sidewalk and Curb Renewal (now 50% complete) – Look for one-way traffic from Monday through Friday with flaggers directing traffic. View the attached map and PDF for more information.

• The Oranges Community Street, Sidewalk and Curb Renewal (now 45% complete) - Look for one-way traffic from Monday through Friday with flaggers directing traffic. View the attached map and PDF for more information.
