Getting Around Town: August 15, 2011

Patch's weekly guide to road closures and traffic issues.

Each Monday, we’ll bring you the latest information on construction delays, road closures and other issues that affect traffic in Silver Spring.

Regular Road Closings

  • Ellsworth Drive from Fenton Street to Georgia Avenue is closed to vehicular traffic each weekend from Friday through Sunday.

        Time: 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Short-term Closures/Work Zones

  • Eastbound University Boulevard between Dennis Avenue and Colesville Road – repairs will block the left lane.
  • Southbound Colesville Road at University Boulevard - work will intermittently block the right lane.
  • Watch out for soil work to close the shoulder of I-495 east around the New Hampshire Avenue exit through August 19.

        Time: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Long-term Work Zones

  • Watch for lane closures due to media repair work on University Boulevard form Caddington Avenue to Eisner Road on weekdays. 

        Time: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 pm.

  • Georgia Avenue from 495 to Route 390 (16th Street), look for milling, patching and paving to close various lanes through  December 31, 2011.

        Time: 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. 

  • Colonial Lane between Ripley Street and Silver Spring Avenue - look for work to block all thru lanes through March 18, 2012.
  • I-495 – look for bridge painting to close the shoulder around the University Boulevard overpass on weekdays through December 31.

       Time: 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. 

  • Watch for ongoing construction of the new Silver Spring Transit Center at Colesville Road and Wayne Avenue – buses now stop on the street and new signage is everywhere.
  • Georgia Avenue from 495 to 16th Street – look for paving work to slow traffic through the end of the year.

        Time: 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. 

  • University Boulevard from the beltway to Colesville Road will be experiencing patching a repaving through the end of 2011 – look for one lane closure at a time.

        Time: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • Forest Glen Community Street, Sidewalk and Curb Renewal (now 50% complete) – Look for one-way traffic on weekdays with flaggers directing traffic. View the attached map and PDF for more information.

        Time: 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • The Oranges Community Street, Sidewalk and Curb Renewal (now 45% complete) - Look for one-way traffic on weekdays with flaggers directing traffic. View the attached map and PDF for more information.

        Time: 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 

  • Forest Glen Road road repairs and resurfacing (now 5% complete) – look for temporary lane closures during the day between 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., as well as evening work around Holy Cross Hospital between 8:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. View the attached map and PDF for more information.
