Getting Around Town: July 25, 2011

Each Monday, we’ll bring you the latest information on construction delays, road closures and other issues that affect traffic in Silver Spring.

Regular Road Closings:

• Ellsworth Drive from Fenton Street to Georgia Avenue is closed to vehicular traffic each weekend from Friday 5:00 p.m. to Sunday 11:00 p.m.

Short-term Closures/Work Zones:

• University Boulevard from Dennis Avenue to Caddington Road - look out for the westbound right lane to be blocked intermittently.

Long-term Work Zones:

• Colonial Lane between Ripley Street and Silver Spring Avenue - look out for work to block all thru lanes from July 18, 2011 through March 18, 2012.

• I-495 –lookout for bridge painting to close the shoulder around the University Boulevard overpass from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. weekdays through December 31.

• Watch for ongoing construction of the new Silver Spring Transit Center at Colesville Road and Wayne Avenue – buses now stop on the street and new signage is everywhere.

• Georgia Avenue from 495 to 16th Street – look for paving work to slow traffic from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. through the end of the year.

• University Boulevard from the beltway to Colesville Road will be experiencing patch work and a repaving through the end of 2011 – look for a one lane closure at an undisclosed time between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

• Forest Glen Community Street, Sidewalk and Curb Renewal (now 50% complete) – Look for one-way traffic on weekdays between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. with flaggers directing traffic. View the attached map and PDF for more information.
