Patch's Weekly Guide to Road Closures and Traffic Issues.

Each Monday, we’ll bring you the latest information on construction delays, road closures and other issues that affect traffic in Silver Spring.

Regular Road Closings

  • Ellsworth Drive from Fenton Street to Georgia Avenue is closed to vehicular traffic each weekend from Friday 5:00 p.m. to Sunday 11:00 p.m.

 Short-term Work Zones

  • Fenton Street at Wayne Avenue, be aware of various lanes being temporarily blocked for utility and signal work.
  • Colesville Road and Fenton Street – watch out for utility work weekdays between 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m

Long-term Work Zones

  • Watch for ongoing construction of the new Silver Spring Transit Center at Colesville Road and Wayne Avenue(also referred to as Second Avenue).
  • Forest Glen Community Street, Sidewalk and Curb Renewal (now 35% complete) – Look for one-way traffic on weekdays between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. with flaggers directing traffic. View the attached map and PDF for more information.
  • Work on resurfacing University Boulevard between Arcola Avenue and Colesville Road continues - watch for single lane closures on University, weekdays from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and overnight Sunday through Thursday 9:00p.m. - 5:00 a.m.; watch for double lanes closures overnight Sunday through Thursday 11:00 p.m. - 5:00 a.m.
  • Bridge painting on the University Boulevard overpass of 495 continues through the end of the year – look for the far lane and shoulder to be closed on various days from 10:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.
  • Watch for surveyors on the shoulder of the inner loop of 495 around the New Hampshire Avenue exit from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. weekdays.
  • University Boulevard from the Beltway to Colesville Road will be experiencing patching a repaving through the end of 2011 – look for one lane closure at a time between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
