Getting Around Town: Sept. 26, 2011

Getting Around Town helps you navigate the streets of downtown.

Each Monday, we’ll bring you the latest information on construction delays, road closures and other issues that affect traffic in Silver Spring.

Regular Road Closings:

  • Ellsworth Drive from Fenton Street to Georgia Avenue is closed to vehicular traffic each weekend from Friday through Sunday

Time: 5 p.m. to 11p.m.

Short-term Closu res/Work Zones:

  • University Boulevard from Caddington Drive to Lorain Drive – construction will block the eastbound left lane this week.
  • Colesville Road at I-495, planned road work will block the northbound right lane.
  • Georgia Avenue from I-495 to Sligo Creek, work will impede the southbound left lane.

Long-term Work Zones:

  • Georgia Avenue from 495 to Route 390 (16th Street), look for milling, patching and paving to close various lanes through Dec. 31, 2011.

Time: from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

  • Colesville Road from Brewster Avenue to University Boulevard – one lane and the shoulder will be closed for repairs through the end of 2011.

Time: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Colesville Road from University Boulevard to Granville Drive – one lane and the shoulder will be closed for concrete work through the end of 2011.

Time: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Colonial Lane between Ripley Street and Silver Spring Avenue - look for work to block all thru lanes through March 18, 2012.
  • I-495 – look for bridge painting to close the shoulder around the University Boulevard overpass weekdays through Dec. 31.

Time: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

  • Watch for ongoing construction of the new Silver Spring Transit Center at Colesville Road and Wayne Avenue – buses now stop on the street and new signage is everywhere.
  • University Boulevard from the beltway to Arcola Avenue will be experiencing patching and repaving through the end of 2011.

Time: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and 9 p.m.to 5 a.m. weekends (single lane closures)

  • Forest Glen Road from Georgia Avenue to Brunett Avenue – Look for lane weekday closures. View the attached map and PDF for more information.

 Time: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

  • Forest Glen Road street, sidewalk and curb rehabilitation – Look for lane weekday closures. View the attached map and PDF for more information.

 Time: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • The Oranges Community Street, Sidewalk and Curb Renewal - Look for one-way traffic on weekdays with flaggers directing traffic. View the attached map and PDF for more information.

 Time: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
