Patch's Weekly Guide to Road Closures and Traffic Issues.

Each Monday, we’ll bring you the latest information on construction delays, road closures and other issues that affect traffic in Silver Spring.

Regular Road Closings:

  • Ellsworth Drive from Fenton Street to Georgia Avenue is closed to vehicular traffic each weekend from Friday through Sunday.

        Time: 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Short-term Closures/Work Zones:

  • Georgia Avenue and Plyers Mill Road – watch for a gas main replacement to close one lane Sept. 12 through Sept. 16.

Time: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Long-term Work Zones:

  • Watch for weekday signal work along Colesville Road at Thayer Avenue, Silver Spring Avenue, Sligo Avenue and Bonifant Street through Sept. 16, 2011.

        Time: 8 a.m. to 5 pm.

  • Georgia Avenue from 495 to Route 390 (16th Street), look for milling, patching and paving to close various lanes through Dec. 31, 2011.

        Time: from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

  • Colonial Lane between Ripley Street and Silver Spring Avenue - look for work to block all thru lanes through March 18, 2012.
  • I-495 – look for bridge painting to close the shoulder around the University Boulevard overpass weekdays through Dec. 31.

        Time: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

  • I-495 – between Seminary Road and a quarter-of-a-mile east of Route 29 – patching and milling will close one lane at a time between 9 a.m. and 3 pm. And 8 pm. to 5 a.m.

        Time: 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

  • Watch for ongoing construction of the new Silver Spring Transit Center at Colesville Road and Wayne Avenue – buses now stop on the street and new signage is everywhere.
  • Georgia Avenue from 495 to 16th Street – look for paving work to slow traffic through the end of the year.

        Time: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

  • University Boulevard from the beltway to Arcola Avenue will be experiencing patching and repaving through the end of 2011 – look for one lane closure at a time.

        Time: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Forest Glen Road from Georgia Avenue to Brunett Avenue – Look for lane weekday closures. View the attached map and PDF for more information.

        Time: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

  • Forest Glen Road street, sidewalk and curb rehabilitation – Look for lane weekday closures. View the attached map and PDF for more information.

        Time: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • The Oranges Community Street, Sidewalk and Curb Renewal (now 45 percent complete) - Look for one-way traffic on weekdays with flaggers directing traffic. View the attached map and PDF for more information.

        Time: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
