Montgomery County Schools Open On Time

Official reports show schools experienced minimal damage after the earthquake, said county official.

Montgomery County Public Schools will continue it's normal schedule, after an earthquake stunned locals causing mass evacuations from offices, homes and businesses.

The earthquake reached a 5.9 magnitude impacting the Washington, D.C. metro area.

Multiple schools were inspected and the initial damage reports have been prioritized, according to an official release from Montgomery County Schools.

"Most of the damage sustained has been minor," said Chris Cram, a spokesman Montgomery County Public Schools.

Orientation scheduled later this week for middle and high school students will take place as planned for Thursday, August 25.

Elementary school open houses are are set for Friday, Aug. 26.

MCPS staff will continue preparing for the opening of school on Monday, Aug. 29, according to an official release.
