Montgomery County Set to Renew Application for Silver Spring Arts District

The application was set for a 10-year period.

In 2002, Silver Spring was designated an Arts and Entertainment District by Maryland's Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED). The application was set for a 10-year period.

With a looming deadline in 2012 to reapply, Montgomery County is set to hear from the Silver Spring community about the re-designation of the arts district Tuesday night. The county is encouraging the arts community to come to the Silver Spring Civic Center at 7 p.m. to share their thoughts on the progress.

Jose Dominguez from Pyramid Atlantic said that an important issue is to acknowledge the new organizations in the downtown area, such as The Fillmore, Bonifant Theater Space and Roundhouse Theatre.
