Montgomery County Trash Pickup on Normal Schedule During Holidays

Weekend holidays mean no change.

If you were concerned that all of the wrapping paper, bags, boxes and bows, streamers, confetti, party hats and noisemakers would pile up due to an amended trash collection schedule, there's really no need to worry!

According to the Montgomery County Division of Solid Waste Services website, when holidays fall on weekend days (and are not observed on a Friday or Monday) then there is no "slide" in the collection schedule. For holidays that do fall on weekdays, the schedule "slides" to one day later in the week.

The county will also help with the removal of your Christmas tree. From Monday, Dec. 27 to Feb. 4, 2011, you can place your tree on the curb by 7 a.m. on your normal trash day. The Yard Trim Recycling crews will pick up your tree and either compost or chip into mulch. They ask that trees be placed outside in a "natural state" and remind you to:

  • Remove the stand and all decorations, including lights, ornaments, tinsel, and garland. (Be sure there is no metal attached to the tree.)
  • Do not place the tree in a plastic bag.
  • Do not place "live" Christmas trees (ones with root balls) or artificial trees curbside. To schedule a bulk trash pickup for an artificial tree, follow the instructions on the county's Bulk Trash Removal webpage.
