Protect Your Home Improvement Projects Against Scams

Free parking is available during the public forum.

Summer is primetime for completing home improvement projects, but it can also be a good time for scammers to steal your money if your not educated about the process.

This Wednesday, learn how to protect your investment with Montgomery County’s Advisory Committee on Consumer Protection.

The public forum goes from 7 to 9 p.m. in Rockville—on the first floor auditorium of the Council Office Building located at 100 Maryland Ave.

Nancy Floreen (D-At large) who chairs the Council’s Planning, Housing and Economic Development (PHED) Committee, will give introductory remarks to the forum.

“As we approach the summer building season, our Office of Consumer Protection generally sees a rise in complaints involving home improvement projects,” Floreen said. “I look forward to having an opportunity to help educate our residents on ways to avoid getting scammed while hearing from experts to address all sides of the issue.”

A few of the topics that will be discussed include:

  • Ways to avoid common scams.
  • Ensure a contractor is properly licensed.
  • Structure a home improvement contract.
  • Permitting requirements for homeowners and what remedies are available.
