Silver Spring Citizens Advisory Board to Discuss Proposed Curfew Law

Montgomery County Council President Valerie Ervin (D) is scheduled to attend.

The Silver Spring Citizens Advisory Board is set to discuss and make recommendations for the proposed teen curfew law in Montgomery County Monday, Sept. 12 at the  at 7:30 p.m. 

It was initiated by Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett in early July and since then has become the center of many . 

The County Council will discuss the proposed law, later in the week, on Thursday, Sept. 15.

In recent amendments to the proposed teen curfew law there were multiple changes, a few of them include:

  • Parental classes for offenders and mandatory community service for the teen can't be mandated because the county doesn't the have the authority under state law.
  • Make the curfew violation a Class B civil offense that is punishable by a maximum fine of $100 for a first offense and $150 for a second offense. (See attached pdf document for full descriptions.)

The advisory board will also receive updates from the following committees: Commercial and Economic Development, Neighborhoods, and Transportation and Pedestrian Safety.
