Silver Spring Metro Closed for Holiday

Wonder what metro workers are doing to the tracks while you are finding alternate transportation?

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority replace tracks on the Red Line just north of the Silver Spring station, a move recommended by the National Transportation Safety Board. The workers are also replacing some large track switches which requires closing five Red Line stations from 10 p.m. Sept. 3, 2010 until 1 a.m. Sept. 7. In addition to the Silver Spring station, the other stations that are closed are the Takoma, Forest Glen, Wheaton and the Glenmont station.

In order to get around this closure Metro is providing a free shuttle bus service between the Fort Totten and Glenmont stations. http://patch.com/buNpi

Normal service will resume at 5 a.m. Tuesday.
