Marriage Equality Forum Push for Volunteers to Drive Movement

The Maryland General Assembly started on January 11.

During the Marriage Equality Town Hall meeting Thursday, Delegates Heather Mizeur (D-Dist. 18, Takoma Park) and Keiffer Mitchell Jr. (D-Baltimore City) pushed to recruit additional Maryland residents to support making the Civil Marriage Protection Act into law.

The meeting--hosted inside of the--attracted a crowd of about 100 people, according to a Metro Weekly report.

Representatives from the Marylanders for Marriage Equality (MME) nonprofit--in support of the legislation--encouraged the crowd to be outspoken and to push for changing the status quo in their own personal relationships.

The campaign manager for MME, Sultan Shakir, asked that attendees assist in runnning phone banks not only in Silver Spring but Aldelphi and Bowie, according to the report.

The legislation was recently assigned to the Judiciary Committe and Health and Government Operations Committee to be reviewed and jointly voted upon.
