Kemp Mill Road a Pleasure to Ride

Life on a motorcycle in Silver Spring will bring the latest places to go for a cruise and remind drivers how to share the road.

A short distance from downtown Silver Spring, Kemp Mill Road is a gateway to a series of small meandering roads great for low-speed cruising. Watch out for families walking children and dogs, and you are set.

Head out of downtown on Georgia Avenue toward Wheaton and make a right at Randolph Road where you will see the old Kensington Fire Dept building.

Continue on Randolph for a straight shot, but don’t wind it out as you pass the police station! You will pass John F. Kennedy High School on you left, and admire the big white anchor in the yard.

Be prepared to make a right onto Kemp Mill Road after you pass Tivoli Lake Boulevard on your left.

Now you have made it! Curving county roads that are surrounded by parkland and  the Wheaton Riding stable with horses. Breathe in that country air just minutes from downtown!

Take the time to explore Glen Allen Avenue up past the horse ranch where you can stop and enjoy the Brookside Nature Center.

Stay on Kemp Mill and make a right at Stonington Road to go and explore all the meandering roads Road hat showcase beautiful and large houses. Watch for deer; I saw three curious spring fawns in the road and had to slow down and honk with a ‘beep’ of my 6 volt horn that sent Bambi leaping into the underbrush.

Remember that people, pets, and children all frequent this area on foot.

Enjoy and ride safe!
