Former NBA All-Star Is Now Eastern Middle Crossing Guard

The six-time NBA All-Star player reportedly makes less than $15,000, according to sports blog Deadspin.

For most people, it's not everyday that you get a wave from a member of the NBA Hall of Fame. For the students at Eastern Middle School in Silver Spring, though, it is.

Sports blog Deadspin reports that Adrian Dantley, six-time All Star player with 15 years of professional basketball under his belt, works as a crossing guard for the school. Reportedly, he is paid $14,685.50.

Dantley, whose frugality was a noted part of his personality, isn't broke, the blog said. He may be in it for the health insurance. Deadspin writes:

Turns out that NBA veterans aren't provided health insurance by the league, not even all-timers like Dantley. Crossing guards in Montgomery County, however, are.

Dantley is a native Washingtonian and graduate of DeMatha in Hyattsville. After playing basketball for Notre Dame University, Dantley played for seven different NBA teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers, the Dallas Mavericks and the Utah Jazz, where he frequently averaged more than 30 points per game, according to Deadspin. He currently lives in Silver Spring.
