MCPS Counselors Available to Talk with Students About Shooting

Counselors at Montgomery County's public schools are available to talk with students concerned about Monday morning's shooting at the Washington Navy Yard.

While the Monday morning shooting at the Washington Navy Yard in Southeast Washington, DC, did not impact Montgomery County's public schools in terms of early dismissals or school closings, school counselors were ready to speak with students.

"If our students have questions or concerns about this tragedy, we have counselors who are ready to speak to them," Montgomery County Public Schools spokesperson Dana Tofig told Patch.

There were at least 12 fatalities from the shooting, according to Washington Mayor Vincent Gray, and three people were wounded. Officials were looking for other possible shooters, Bowie Patch reported.
