37 Blair Students Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

Students from Montgomery County Public Schools represent more than 40 percent of Maryland's semifinalists.

Thirty-seven students from Montgomery Blair High in Silver Spring have been named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, more than any other public high school in Montgomery County. The 37 students enter the running for $2,500 National Merit scholarships.

Semifinalists are selected based on their 2011 PSAT scores. Here is a breakdown of the semifinalists from other MCPS high schools:

Montgomery Blair: 37
Winston Churchill: 11
Damascus: 1
Albert Einstein: 1
Northwest: 1
Poolesville: 7
Richard Montgomery: 26
Sherwood: 2
Walt Whitman: 25
Walter Johnson: 6
Thomas S. Wootton: 14
