Montgomery College Hosts Black History Month Celebrations

On the Montgomery College Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus students and faculty recognize Black History Month with a variety of events.

Montgomery College Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus - located on 7600 Takoma Avenue - is hosting a variety of events including:

Event Date /Time Location "A Taste of Soul" invites students and community members to discover and sample a variety of soul food.
Feb. 14 at 11 am. ST/Atrium African Skies will explore the journey of at least 40,000 people who used the Drinking Gourd and the Big Dipper to guide them to freedom. A physics professor at Montgomery College will also address the Ethiopian culture and their experience of practicing science in the country. Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. Planetarium Councilmember Valerie Ervin is scheduled to present. The details are uknown at this time. Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. CAC/Theater 1 KanKouran West African Dance Company is set to perform for the Black History Celebration on campus. This dance company perfomed for President George Bush, at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Smithsonian Institution, and the National Symphony Orchestra. Feb. 23 and 24 at noon ST/Atrium The African Arts & Crafts Show will have a variety of jewelry and handcrafts on display and for sale.
Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ST/Atrium
