Silver Spring Elementary School Evacuated,Students Safe

Students were outside for about 20 minutes.

A water cooler at Highland Elementary School, 3100 Medway Street, started to spew smoke Wednesday around 1:45 p.m., said a school official. The cooling device which is located in a county office near the kindergarten wing of the school forced officials to evacuate the children.

Assistant Principal Michelle Piket said Montgomery County firefighters cleared students to come back to the building after about 20 minutes.

"They [firefighters] checked the water cooler and the electrical circuits connected to it," said Piket.
