Silver Spring Whiz Kids Honored for Excellence

Students were awarded on Wednesday, Feb. 29.

Twelve athletes at Northwood High School demonstrated their academic talents during the recently completed winter sports season by being recognized as Scholar Athletes at the Winter Sports Awards Night in the school's auditorium.

Northwood school officials used the occasion to shine the spotlight on their top performers in the classroom as well as on the playing fields.

The following varsity and junior varsity participants were hailed as Scholar Athletes – the highest honor for student-athletes at Northwood – for attaining a perfect 4.0 grade point average during their season of competition:

  • Darian Woehr for cheerleading
  • Axel Honsou for indoor track
  • William Putschi indoor track
  • Bethlehem Admasu for indoor track
  • Alexandra Miller for indoor track
  • Juanita Adrih for poms
  • Gina Gaebl for poms
  • Gabriella Cottilli for swimming and diving
  • Emerson Milam for swimming and diving
  • Chelsea Vanderweele for swimming and diving
  • Anna Zastrow for swimming and diving

In addition, 81 varsity and junior varsity athletes earned the Minds in Motion Award for recording at least a 3.25 average during the second marking period at Northwood.
