A student at Northwood High School in Silver Spring was sent to a hospital Monday morning with a puncture wound after being stabbed in an incident inside the school, said Capt. Paul Starks, spokesperson for Montgomery County police. Police said the injury was not life-threatening.

Officers responded around 11 a.m. to reports of a stabbing in or near the cafeteria, Starks said. The victim said he didn't know the suspect, but police are investigating whether the crime was in retaliation for a fight that occurred last week.

Police are looking at surveillance video from the scene.

"An incident did occur this morning," Gboyinde Onijala, spokesperson for Montgomery County public schools, told Patch. "Police are on the scene investigating."

An employee at Northwood said the school was not on lockdown.
