It's Day 15 of the Federal Government's furlough of its employees, and all eyes are on Capitol Hill hoping that the U.S. Congress will soon agree on a Continuing Resolution to fund the government and an increase in the debt ceiling.
Some Federal employees, however, choose to spend Day 15 of the furlough helping to care for young trees in Silver Spring that had been planted by the countywide non-profit organization, Conservation Montgomery.
The activity, organized by Conservation Montgomery's Board Chair, Caren Madsen, a furloughed Department of Interior executive, was publicized online. Employees from the Department of Homeland Security, National Institutes of Health, and NOAA, among others, participated in the program to apply mulch and fertilizer around the trees in the Montgomery Hills section of Silver Spring.
