Silver Spring Thanksgiving Parade: A Tremendous Success!

The 2013 Silver Spring Thanksgiving Parade was a tremendous success.

On a bright, brisk November day, thousands of people turned out to see the annual Silver Spring Thanksgiving Parade, more formally known as the Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade.

The popular parade included Montgomery County bands from Springbrook, Montgomery Blair, Northwood and Paint Branch high schools as well as the Washington _____ Marching Band and the The Bowie State University "Symphony of Soul.  Traditional Latin dancing units, including Alma Boliviana, Caporales Ruphay, and Fraternidad Folklorica Cultural Caporales Universales were also featured. Also of note was the first-time participation of the Park Hills Civic Association and the Sligo Creek Golf Association.

Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett, Congressman Chris van Hollen, Maryland State Representatives Raskin, Hucker, Hixson & Mizeur, along with Montgomery County Councilmembers Ervin, Floreen, Andrews, Rice, Leventhal, and Riemer partipated, as did Maryland Lt. Governor Anthony Brown.

ABC 7 Meteorologist Brian van de Graaff served as master of ceremonies. The parade was broadcast live on News Channel 8 and will be repeated on Thanksgiving Day.
