So I agreed to be thrown off of a building for food allergies....

I am rappelling down the side of the Westin Arlington to raise funds and awareness for food allergies and you can help!

In February, I moved back to Silver Spring after spending five years in Boston working for the International OCD Foundation.

What brought me back was not only my love for the area, but a new job working for the country's leading nonprofit on food allergies, Food Allergy Research & Education (www.foodallergy.org).

Many of you may not know a lot about food allergies other than you are hearing about an increasing number of cases.  However, the risk it poses to those who have it, from newborns to adults, is very real.

It isn't just a matter of not eating what makes you sick. Even a crumb in something unexpected can kill those with life-threatening food allergies.

In July, a 13-year old girl named Natalie Giorgi passed away in her parents' arms after just tasting, not even swallowing, a rice krispie treat that contained peanut butter. The story can be found here: http://www.kcra.com/news/local-news/news-sacramento/parents-of-girl-who-died-of-peanut-allergy-reaction-speak-out/-/12969376/21686610/-/5dla0yz/-/index.html

We are doing our best to educate the public and raise awareness, but that takes funding. In order to accomplish the tasks of both raising awareness and funds, we are holding events across the country called "Over the Edge". Many of our staff and other supporters are going over the sides of buildings across the country....including me!

This is where I need the help of my community. I would love if you would consider joining my team to help me reach my fundraising goal of $2,000. Without hitting my goal, I can't go over and my feral screams of terror will not be used to raise awareness of food allergies.

Even $10 will benefit children and adults who are overcoming the daily struggle with food allergies.

Please consider making a donation to my team "The Amazing Spigler-Man" here.
