Look for the Bright Red Bikes Starting Friday

Capital Bikeshare launches in Montgomery County on Friday, Sept. 27.

Capital Bikeshare—the bike-sharing system that started in Washington, DC, a few years ago—launches in Montgomery County on Friday morning.

More than 1,800 Capital Bikeshare bikes already are in use in DC and Virginia, and Friday will mark Capital Bikeshare's first foray into Maryland, according to a news release from the City of Rockville.

The Capital Bikeshare launch takes place at 10:30 a.m. at the Capital Bikeshare station at Courthouse Square in Rockville.

In recent weeks, many stations have been constructed across Montgomery County, including indowntown Bethesda and Silver Spring. So far, these stations have not had any bikes in them—just yellow police tape draped across the docking stations where the bikes will go. Once the system launches on Friday morning, the other county stations will start to get their bikes.

There will be about 30 Capital Bikeshare stations in lower Montgomery County, Patch reported.

As of Thursday afternoon, the county had not yet released the dates on which the other county Capital Bikeshare stations would get their bikes.

As soon as you see one of the stations get its new red bikes, let us know! Tweet photos of the new stations to@BethesdaCCPatch and @SilvSpringPatch.
