Metro's Red Line: Track Work Returns Next Weekend

Red Line riders, this weekend is your lucky weekend: There is no scheduled track work on your line, according to Metro's website.

There will be track work on the Blue and Orange lines, however. Visit Metro's website for more details.

Enjoy the track work-free weekend, though, because it'll be back next weekend, Oct. 4 (late night) through 6, when track work will require the closure of Farragut North, Judiciary Square and Union Station. Free shuttle buses will replace trains for the closed part of the Red Line (between Dupont Circle and NoMa-Gallaudet stations), Metro reported on its website.

Since "Metro is not a federal entity, [it] would remain open during any government shutdown. Trains and buses will operate on regular schedules, and the system will open and close at regular times," Metro reported on its website.

But, "[in] the event of a shutdown lasting several days that results in significantly lower ridership," Metro might have to adjust trains to "right size" train capacity," Metro stated.

"For example, we may operate more six-car trains and fewer eight-car trains, because 8-car trains might not be necessary. We will communicate these changes publicly if any such decision is made," Metro added.
