County Fair, FestAfrica, Skate Jam and More Near Silver Spring This Weekend

65th Montgomery County Agricultural Fair

• Where: Montgomery County Agricultural Fairgrounds, 16 Chestnut St., Gaithersburg.
• When: Opens at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, and closes that day at midnight. From Saturday, Aug. 10, through Saturday, Aug. 17, the fair is open from 10 a.m. to midnight each day.
• Description: A Montgomery County tradition. Among the attractions are carnival rides, live entertainment, animals, food and vendors, and more. Read more on Patch.
• Cost: General admission is $10. Children 11 years old and younger are free. Parking is $10 (cash) per car. Rides and food have varying prices.

Rockville Skate Jam at Rockville Skate Park

• Where: Rockville Skate Park, 355 Martins Ln. (behind Rockville Swim Center), Rockville.
• When: Friday, Aug. 9, 2 p.m.
• Description: Free event and family friendly skateboarding competition. Music, food, skateboarding, ice cream and more.
• Cost: Free.

2nd Annual Howard County Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk

• Where: Centennial Park, 10000 State Route 108, Ellicott City.
• When: Sunday, Aug. 11, 8 a.m.
• Description: This 2.4-mile walk was founded by in response to losing relatives and friends to this deadly disease. It is sponsored by the Lustgarten Foundation.

My Kids Safe Community Day: Family Fun Fair

• Where: 17920 Brooke Rd., Sandy Spring.
• When: Saturday, Aug. 17, 1 p.m.
• Description: This free family event makes the safety of our children its primary focus as they head back to school. Add great eats, treats and beats to that and it's a fun family time. Free safety inspections, child ID fingerprint kits, self defense demonstrations, Sandy Spring Firehouse tours and tons of useful giveaways for back to school.
• Cost: Free.

5th Annual "Pachuca Day"—A Youth Soccer Fun Day

• Where: Rockville High School.
• When: Sunday, Aug. 11.
• Description: Fifth annual youth soccer fun day.
• Cost: Free.

Language Stars at FestAfrica 2013

• Where: Veterans Plaza, downtown Silver Spring.
• When: Saturday, Aug. 10.
• Description: FestAfrica is held at Veterans Plaza in downtown Silver Spring. Visitors are invited to see Language Stars at the event for fun children's activities, a raffle, giveaways and more!
• Cost: Free.

Family Fun Day

• Where: 14905 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring.
• When: Saturday, Aug. 10.
• Description: Locals are invited to join Shiloh Christian Fellowship's Day in the community with food, live music, face painting, a moon bounce and more.
• Cost: Free.

National Capital Daylily Club: Annual Daylily Sale

• Where: Davidsonville Ruritan Community Center, 3358 Davidsonville Rd., Davidsonville.
• When: Saturday, Aug. 10, 9 a.m.
• Description: Most daylilies will be sold as bare root double fans for $5. Newer cultivars and potted day lilies will be slightly more. Visitors are welcome to join the club at noon for an auction of Club Plants inside the air-conditioned building. Club Plants are new and unusual daylilies grown by club members. NCDC is a nonprofit educational organization whose purpose is to promote dayliles through education and exhibition.
• Cost: Free to attend. Plants for sale $5 and up.

Friday Night Live

• Where: Rockville Town Square, Rockville.
• When: Saturday, Aug. 10, 9 a.m.
• Description: Friday Night Live is a free outdoor concert for all to enjoy. Bands include Yellow Dubmarine (Reggae Beatles tribute band), The Crawdaddies  (New Orleans/Zydeco), White Ford Bronco ('80s and '90s cover band), Darryl Davis Band (Blues), Dublin 5 (Irish Rock) and more. Cirque Italia's "Spectacular Water Circus"

• Where: The Great Frederick Fairgrounds, 797 E. Patrick St., Frederick.
• When: Friday, Aug. 9, 7:30 p.m.
• Description: Cirque Italia is an Italian entertainment company that brings a performance of European style. The stage holds 35,000 gallons of water.
