I can tell you that soothing classical music does work. WETA 90.5 FM calmed both my dogs down. WeRead More never got close, close to the fireworks but you could hear them from the house, and remember that animals hear differently frequencies than us.

How about just obeying the law!!! No air-bourne fireworks, not loud fire crackers ie: mortorsRead More nothing that can scare our pets, livestock and wildlife. We also have to be considerate of our veterans, many who suffer from PTSD. The loud explosions can also be traumatic to them. Last, the debris ends up on roofs, dry leaf piles, or in ponds and streams that can kill or make sick fish, frogs, turtles, and other small animals. Lots of places offering professional shows, please go see them there.

A day to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. I always attend the Arbutus Memorial DayRead More ceremony of American Legions 27 Original Flags. It is the very least I can do to show my respect and deep appreciation for all those brave men & women who gave their very lives for my freedoms and the freedom of so many all over the world. Their deaths meant that I can practice my religion, speak without fear, honor my country how I want, vote in a democratic republic, bear arms, and so on and so on.... Thank God for all the men & women who gave their lives for this country and for me. Amen

I proudly fly my American flag and I treat it with respect when handling it. It represents freedomRead More and the sacrifice of American blood in order to keep that freedom. If someone were to ask me who I admire most I would immediately say my mother. She has been soRead More sincerely outgoing, pleasant, hardworking and dedicated. She raised a very large family under some pretty difficult conditions yet kept her pleasant social personality through it all and did a very good job of it too. My mother is an amazing person. I wish I were more like her.

I agree with the advice given for those who have lost a parent. Another group who are also facing aRead More difficult Mother and/or Father's day are bereaved parents. When one loses a child, the question often asked is, " am I still a mother/father?" The answer is a resounding yes. Whether or not a parent has surviving children or not, we are always still a mother/father. A card, flowers, a phone call from a relative or friend, or best of all, a hug, goes a long way to help a bereaved parent through these difficult holidays. Some bereaved parents go out of their way to avoid noticing the day, so even an email saying " thinking of you" helps. Losing a child is a grief which never goes away, though we do our best to navigate what so many others take for granted - that our children will always be there physically for us to cherish. For bereaved parents, we can only cherish their memories and the love we will always have for our lost children. For those bereaved parents having difficult time, please go to WWW.CompassionateFriends.org for help and information about a support group in your area.

Absoutely!... Mahler's Resurrection Symphony (No 2): a deep. spiritual journeythat ends in trueRead More heaven... and composed by a Jew (this is my take as one, sorry)
jMichael April 20, 2014 at 08:59 am
Good one, Leslie. No one should let this day pass without sounding this symphony throughout hisRead More home. It is my understanding, however, that "The Resurrection" compassed by Mahler is not that of Jesus of Nazareth, but rather of us... The vision of our resurrection to the afterlife. It is not an affirmation of Christianity but of a sacred Humanity. If I am wrong about this please correct me. Regards, jMichael
