The surprise success of the Orioles and Nationals has the region buzzing.
The Orioles and Nationals "rivalry" has required quotations through the first few years of interleague play around the beltway. This year is different. Entering the three-game weekend set, beginning Friday night at Nationals Park, the two clubs are battling atop their divisions against clubs with star-studded rosters and larger payrolls. So as one of the most important series between these neighboring ball clubs gets underway, the Patch sites in the Maryland area are curious: who are you pulling for in this year's Battle of the Beltway? Are you cheering for Bryce Harper and the Nationals? Or are you behind Adam Jones and the Orioles? While we're at it, which team do you think stands the best chance of staying in the pennant race late into …

Bike to Work Week ends Friday May 18.
Written by: Emaun Kashfipour Bike to Work Week is almost over with two more days left. The week-long event was started to promote bicycling and bicycle safety. The Cycle Trade Association first established American Bike Month, then the League of American Bicyclists changed it to Bike Month in 1956. "Bike to work month was started to promote bicycling for transportation and recreation," Carolyn Szczepanski, the Director of Communications at the League of American Bicyclists, said. On Bike to Work Day this Friday, there will be 58 pit stops in the Washington D.C. area to provide bikers with refreshments, free t-shirts, and give-aways. Two of those pit stops will be in Silver Spring. One of them is on the corner of Wayne and Georgia Avenues…

RedGate Golf Course won by a large margin.
In 2000 Tiger Woods won the U.S. Open by 12 strokes, the largest margin ever in the tournament's history. It was an honest-to-goodness blowout. Well here at Readers' Choice we had a routing of similar proportions this week. Last week asked readers what their favorite public golf courses were in three regions with Northwest Golf Course, Little Bennett Golf Course and RedGate Municipal Golf Course winning the three regions. This week we put them all head-to-head for a battle royale of best public golf course in Montgomery County. The readers spoke loudly. RedGate Golf Course in Rockville won with 77 percent of the vote, or 129 votes. Little Bennett Golf Course came in second with 23 votes and Northwest Golf Course came in third with 15.

Wednesday, April 18
Written By: David Stinson Northwood High School senior Andrew Soncrant played his way into the record books on Tuesday, after throwing a complete game victory and striking out a Northwood-record 13 batters as the visiting Gladiators defeated Watkins Mill HS 6-2 in varsity baseball. Soncrant has been a member of the varsity team since being called up for the final game of his freshman season, but his performance against the Wolverines was definitely his finest. He also drove home Northwood’s first run of the game with a first-inning double that scored Ian Winnick. Then Carter Stinson drove in the 2nd run and the Gladiators never trailed. Andrew has been a starter on the varsity baseball team since 10th grade. He also is a member of the …

I just got back from the game. What a night. The first surprise came at the ticket booth, where the cheapest seat still available was $27. I guess that's the downside of having meaningful baseball. Though the upside is that $27 seat was like 20 or so rows back in the lower deck. I'll take it. The crowd was really well-mixed and energetic. It was very friendly, not like hanging out with Yankees …   more ›
