Police officers and county officials broke ground on the 32,844-square foot project Wednesday afternoon. A dense pocket of forested land teeming with wildlife sits so close to the busy intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Columbia Pike in White Oak that cars can be heard whizzing by from the land's perimeter. In a little over a year, the thick canopy of trees will be replaced with a new base for Montgomery County Police's 3rd District. Construction for the station was supposed to begin in May and crews have already begun clearing the nearly 33,000 square feet plot.
